RULES FOR QUIZ

                                       HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ
                                     NATIONAL INTEGRATION

The following document describes rules and regulations of the quiz. The Quiz Masters reserve the right to change any of the following rules at any time, upon notice to participants.

Tournament Structure: High School Quiz Show is an elimination based academic tournament . There will be a total of 16 teams (2 students in each team)  in the tournament. There will be 4 Preliminary rounds.and the winner of each round proceeds to the Finals.

Each Preliminary Round shall have :
1. Direct Question Round    
2. Head-to-Head Round
3. Category Round
4. Lightning Round

General instructions to participants:
1.      Only one member of the team can be the ‘speaker’.
2.      The teams can confer (within time limit) before answering.
3.      The first answer spoken aloud will be considered as final.
4.      Team members must wait for the host to call on them by name before attempting to answer a question in Buzzer Rounds.
5.      No participant is allowed to interrupt the Quiz masters in between a question.
6.      It is advisable to listen to the complete question before attempting an answer.
7.      The Quiz masters’ decision will be final.


Round 1: Direct  Question  round
Format: Every Team gets a question to answer.
Time limit: 15 seconds to answer, otherwise the Q passes to the next team.
Questions: Random topics; short answer and multiple choice

Points: A direct answer is worth 10 points. If the Q is passed, the correct answer is worth 5 points.
Penalty: There will be no deductions for wrong answers in this round.
Bouncing: If a Q cannot be answered correctly, it is then posed to the next team in queue.

Round 2: Head-to-Head
Format:
Buzzer round.
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Questions: Random topics; There may also be visual or audio questions.
Points: All questions are worth 10 points.
Penalty: Incorrect answers result in deduction of 5 points.
Buzzing: Players may buzz in at any time, even before a question is fully read. But, in this case, the Quiz master will not complete the question. Team members must wait for the host to call on them by name before attempting to answer a question.
Bouncing: If a Q cannot be answered correctly, it is then posed to the second team which hit the buzzer.

Round 3: Category  Round
Format : There are 6 categories to choose from, each having 2 Qs.
First Team to answer will be chosen by a draw. This will continue till all the teams get a chance to pick a category. A category once chosen cannot be chosen again.
Time limit: 15 seconds
Questions: Players pick from a board of six themed categories such as
1.      Lost in Space  (science)
2.      Chicken and Egg”  (History and Geography)
3.      Vande Maataram  (India’s Freedom Struggle/Defense and Armed Forces)
4.      Howzatt !!!  (Cricket)
5.      Great Job !  (Great personalities)
6.      Sa-re-ga-ma-pa ♫ ♪♫  (Art and literature)

Points: Each Question is worth 10 points.
Penalty: No points to be deducted for a wrong answer.
Bouncing: Q is transferable. When the question is unanswerable, it will be posed as open for all teams.
Buzzer : The Team which hits the buzzer first gets to answer. Penalty : In case of a wrong answer, 10 points will be deducted.

  
Round 4. : Audio  visual                     

Format: Buzzer round.
Time Limit:
15 seconds
Questions: Random topics.
Points: All questions are worth 10 points.
Penalty: Incorrect answers result in a 5 point deduction.
Bouncing : This round is not transferable to other teams.
Question unanswered will be passed on to the audience.


Round 1 : GRAB THE Clue             

Format : Each team gets individual Q to answer. Clues will be given one by one.
The team has to try answer as early as possible to secure more marks.
Time Limit:
7 seconds
Questions: A great personality / historical event / architecture
Points: For an answer given after :
·         first clue – 20 points
·         second clue – 15 points
·         third clue – 10 points
·         fourth clue – 5 points
Penalty: no penalty for incorrect answers.
Bouncing : This round is not transferable to other teams.
Question unanswered will be passed on to the audience.

Round 2:  Lightning Round                           

Format: Each Team has to try for as many questions as possible in the time limit. They can say ‘PASS’ to skip a question (and save time)

Time limit: 60 seconds.
Questions: Random categories. No audio-visual questions.
Points: All questions are worth 5 points.
Penalty: No penalty for incorrect answer.
Bouncing : This round is not transferable to other teams.

Round 3: Fastest finger             

Format: Buzzer round.
Time Limit: 10 seconds
Questions: Random topics; There may also be visual or audio questions.
Points: All questions are worth 10 points.
Penalty: Incorrect answers result in deduction of 5 points.
Buzzing: Players may buzz in at any time, even before a question is fully read. But, in this case, the Quiz master will not complete the question. Team members must wait for the host to call on them by name before attempting to answer a question.
Bouncing: If a Q cannot be answered correctly, it is then posed to the second team which hit the buzzer.

Tiebreaker (if needed)
The tiebreaker is a 3 question round.
Time : 5 seconds to answer.
Penalty : 5 points penalty for a wrong answer.
Bouncing:If the answer cannot be given or the answer is incorrect, the opposing team will have a chance to answer the question in the same manner. If neither team gives a correct answer, the host will move on to another question to be answered in the same manner.
Sudden-death round. (if needed)
This round will take place in case of equal points even after the Tie breaker round. The host will ask a toss-up question worth 10 points. Team members are allowed to confer before buzzing in. If the answer is correct, the game is over and the team will be declared the winner.
This will continue until a correct answer is given and one team may be declared the winner.
