                                                                                                        12th November 2011
CIRCULAR TO PARENTS
ALL CLASSES
Dear Parents,
Sub:     1) Holiday on all Thursdays
   2) Change of School Timings

This circular is for the kind information of all parents and students that with effect from Thursday,    17th November 2011, all Thursdays will be observed as holidays.

The school timings, with effect from Saturday, 19th November 2011 will be as follows:

Arrival for Kindergarten
:
7:45 a.m.

Arrival for Classes I to XII
:
7:40 a.m.

Departure for Kindergarten
:
12:05 p.m.

Departure for Classes I to XII
:
2:10 p.m.

While Kindergarten will follow the current working hours, classes I to XII will have school from         7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. Clarifications for the change in timings for Classes I to XII are provided below:

1)     As per the rules of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource, India, the number of working days per year, in educational institutions should exceed 200 days. This rule is endorsed by CBSE and as per its affiliation bye-laws, a school should have more than 1200 working hours annually.

2)     Indian Schools in Oman, working 5 days a week, achieve approximately 185 days a year. With 6 hours per day, this would total 1,110 hours, which is well short of the prescribed minimum norms. With our current practice of giving study leave during summative assessments, biannually, the actual number of working days is further reduced.

3)     To prevent any more reduction of working hours for academic work, we used to conduct several important activities as well as classes on Thursdays. These will now have to be held during the five working days.

4)     The school syllabus is prescribed by NCERT/CBSE on the basis of the minimum working hours. However, when we do not actually follow the prescribed hours, the proper completion of syllabi is bound to be adversely affected.
In view of the above, we find it necessary to extend the school working hours. Accordingly, classes I to XII will work from 7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m., instead of from 7:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Office hours will be from 7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the fee payment hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. from Saturday to Wednesday.

At the end of the current academic year, the summer vacation will be from 26th June to 26th August 2012 in order to coincide this period with the holy month of Ramadan. Please note this amendment to the school calendar.

Thank you for your cooperation.
